"a cappella" 2020 has to be cancelled

Dear friends and fans of the a cappella Festival,

In a few weeks’ time, a cappella 2020 was supposed to be in full swing. However, with the current situation having such a severe impact on public and social life as well as the arts sector, after careful consideration we have been forced to cancel this year’s a cappella Festival and Contest.

You can rest assured that we – the a cappella Association as the organizers, and amarcord as the artistic directors and hosts – have by no means taken this decision lightly. But we are acutely aware of how irresponsible it would be to hold events clearly contributing to the spread of coronavirus. Despite the possibility that the ban on concerts might be partially lifted in early May, we don’t want to proceed with the absence of any age groups in the audience or any singers on the stage. Instead, we want to enable everyone to enjoy or perform the festival’s music without any anxiety. Even if we could still hold the festival, this would only be possible with countless restrictions which are difficult to assess at this time. But a cappella is a project dear to our hearts and we could not bear to impose any such curbs on it.

Mind you, you’ll still continue to hear from us and doubtless also see us! We’re currently working on ways to charm you with a cappella sounds during the original festival dates from 1 to 9 May (and beyond!).

We’ll also let you know how to obtain ticket refunds soon.

Full details about what’s planned and answers to frequently asked questions will be posted shortly – both here, of course, and also on our Facebook page. Please be patient a little longer. Above all, stay healthy – and keep faith with music!

Very best wishes,

The a cappella team on behalf of amarcord
