The calens vocal ensemble from Stuttgart proudly emerged as the winners of the 2025 International a cappella Contest, earning acclaim from both jury and audience. This eight-member ensemble was formed in early 2022 within Stuttgart’s vibrant choral scene, inspired by a workshop led by the renowned British group Voces8. Fans of Voces8’s sound and style will surely enjoy this talented young South German octet. With their high-quality performances, engaging presence, and rich, panoramic ensemble sound, they left audiences eagerly anticipating more at the Contest. Now, calens will be delivering on that promise at the traditional winners’ concert. They’ll be returning to Leipzig with a programme featuring historical and contemporary settings of sacred texts – including works by Mendelssohn, Byrd, Mäntyjärvi and even the ensemble members themselves – beautifully showcasing the timelessness of classical vocal music.
