For two decades now, La Grande Chapelle has been devoted to the polyphonic repertoire of the Renaissance and Baroque, with a particular focus on the musical treasures of Spain. Under the direction of Albert Recasens, the ensemble has made a name for itself by rediscovering forgotten composers and works, often bringing them to the audience for the first time through new recordings.
La Grande Chapelle performs regularly at major festivals across Spain and throughout Europe. Making its debut at the a cappella Festival, the ensemble will present Tomás Luis de Victoria’s great ‘Officium Defunctorum’, composed for the funeral of Empress Maria of Spain and regarded as one of the masterpieces of the Spanish Renaissance. Their festival concert in St Peter’s Church in 2026 promises to be a highlight of Spanish sacred music – one very much to look forward to.
