Italian name, English ensemble, boundary-breaking vocal art: I Fagiolini – the ‘little beans’ – are celebrated as much for their dazzling vocal quality as for their wit and extraordinary creativity. Now entering their 40th season, Robert Hollingworth’s ensemble has long since moved beyond the confines of the traditional concert format. Alongside ‘classical’ programmes, they have created a remarkable range of cross-genre and cross-disciplinary projects, playfully engaging with film, dance, puppetry and even circus, and always reimagining the vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque.
Appearing at the festival for the second time since 2008, I Fagiolini will return with a programme of personal repertoire favourites – from glittering showpieces of the European Renaissance and Monteverdi to finely crafted recent a cappella gems. A fitting celebration of 40 years of adventurous vocal music.
Pre-concert talk with I Fagiolini and amarcord at 7:05 p.m. at the Lutherkirche
