Dear a cappella audience,
Unfortunately, the 13th International a cappella competition scheduled for April 27th to 30th, 2022 cannot take place as planned, to our great regret: The difficult rehearsal, performance and travel situation caused by the corona pandemic still has the a cappella offspring under control that some of the ensembles already admitted to the competition still have difficulties rehearsing together or making the – in some cases very long – journey to the competition.
More and more ensembles have recently had to cancel their participation, and in view of the spread of the omicron variant, it must be expected that other groups will also be forced to do so in the short term. It is therefore with a heavy heart that the competition has to be canceled this year, although it was firmly planned, because an extensive and fair competition is no longer possible.
However, we only want to cancel the competition itself, which is scheduled for April 27th and 28th – we would like to offer the “a cappella master class” and the “a cappella showcase” to you and the national participants who are able to travel to Leipzig offer: on April 29th, as usual, you can follow Stephen Connolly’s master class for the participating ensembles from Germany free of charge.
The popular “a cappella showcase” will also take place on the same day – but due to the smaller scope of the program, entry will also be free this time.
Anyone who has already purchased tickets for the showcase can now have the tickets they have already purchased reimbursed via the “a cappella” association (by email to info@a-cappella-festival.de) – or spend the purchase price and use the purchased ticket as a seat reservation: For all previous buyers who do not exchange their tickets, the seats selected when purchasing the tickets are reserved. All other interested parties are cordially invited to spontaneously come to the “a cappella showcase” and support the young ensembles. Tickets already purchased for the competition will be refunded via the ticket offices.
* Concessions are available for children, full-time students, apprentices, trainees, the unemployed, volunteers in the Federal Volunteer Service, people with severe disabilities, and Leipzig Pass holders (proof required). Errors and omissions excepted. The concert on 5 June 2025 in the Great Hall of the Gewandhaus is subject to the Gewandhaus’s concessions policy.
