UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity includes Albanian folk iso-polyphony – a traditional form of vocal music that’s especially cultivated in the south of the country and deserves our attention. Performed by the Albanian Iso-Polyphonic Choir, it features polyphonic singing in Albanian against a background sung as a drone. It can therefore be compared to the traditional songs of the Mediterranean region, the power of which has already been demonstrated at the a cappella Festival Leipzig in the past. It’s therefore high time to explore this corner of both south-east Europe and the world of song in Leipzig!
*Concessions are available for students (school pupils and trainees), unemployed persons, Federal Volunteers (Bundesfreiwilligendienst participants), severely disabled persons, and Leipzig Pass holders, upon presentation of a valid personal ID.
For the concerts on 1st May and 5th May, the concession rules of the Leipzig Opera House and the Gewandhaus respectively apply. All information is subject to change.
